Terje Skjeggedal has a degree in engineering from the Norwegian Institute of Technology, 1976, and a PhD from the same institution in 1988. He works in the Department of Housing and Environmental Planning Research at NIBR. He also holds a part-time post at the Eastern Norway Research Institute. Terje Skjeggedal brings experience of planning from working for a firm of consultants, local government and Ministry of the Environment. Since 1980, however, he has worked in research, in addition to periods of teaching. His professional experience is wide-ranging, but Terje Skjeggedal’s interests have focused mainly on planning by local authorities under the Planning and Building Act, environmentally friendly urban development in towns and rural centres, natural resource management, particularly the balance between use and conservation, interpretation of landscape changes and evaluation of pilot schemes by local authorities such as, for instance, local management of protected areas and the unitary governance (enhetsfylker) pilot scheme.
