Frants Gundersen obtained a degree in engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim (1990), subsequently studying economic geography at the University of Oslo. He is highly experienced in statistical work from his time at Statistics Norway, and is currently a member of a regional research group at NIBR. He works mainly on quantitative analyses in connection with various forms of regional development. He has worked on issues related to industrial innovation and R&D, and is particularly interested in their impact on regional production and knowledge systems. Wider issues arising from economic growth have attracted his attention recently, particularly in the field of corporate dynamics (establishing new businesses, closures, new products and business relocation), and industrial structure.
