International Studies
Our research interest encompasses politics and governance. We engage with change processes, reforms, and new policy measures - and their impact at the regional and local levels. Many of our projects are micro-level studies carried out by multi-disciplinary teams, and often applying a comparative perspective.
Our portfolio is made up of a mix of research, often funded by the Research Council of Norway, and evaluations carried out for a number of different agencies. We have broad experience in evaluating aid projects and collaborative efforts between Norwegian and foreign institutions and organisations. Collaboration with national or local institutions in the countries in which we work is an integral part of our approach. We have ongoing research projects in Southern and East Africa, South - and Southeast Asia, Latin-America, Eastern Europe and Eurasia, including Central Europe.
Being part of a Norwegian research institute with around 70 employees, we benefit from the competence and experience gained by NIBR's research in Norway. Our project on the 'Nordic model' explores how experiences and elements from Norway's development model may inform the debate in countries in which we work.
